In the centre of Slovenia, at the northern edge of the Dolenjska Hillocks, 412 m above sea level, at the main road connecting the Dolenjska and Zasavje Regions, stands the renaissance Bogenšperk Castle, one of the most important cultural monuments in Slovenia.
The village is situated 455 m above sea level and has 89 inhabitants.
The clustered settlement is located on the sunny side of the Gradišče Hill (455 m) above the Jablanica Valley, and comprises the neighbouring hamlets Dobovec and Zelenec. Atop of the Roven Plateau (539 m), a beautiful view spot, stands the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, which can be seen from Zgornji Log, Litija, Sitarjevec, Zavstnik, Cerkovnik, Gradiške Laze and all the surrounding hills. This place is known to have been the site of an ancient fort erected in defence against the Turks. The villagers engage in stockbreeding, fruit growing and forestry. The Countryside Development Society LAZ joins the Jablanica Valley inhabitants in the Šmartno pri Litiji and Litija municipalities.

The scattered village with a clustered centre is situated in the Posavje Hills, 560 m above sea level, on the sunny slope of the Straža Hill (630 m), above the upper Temenica Valley.
Liberga is a scattered village on the ridge between the Kostrevnica and Jablanica Valleys to the southeast of the municipality, which boasts a beautiful view. A vineyard road leads past the vineyards and vineyard cottages; from Jelša, through Liberga and Preska and past Tisje. Fran Levstik, a famous Slovenian writer, observed in his work Popotovanje iz Litije do čateža (The Trip from Litija to Čatež) that this was one of the most picturesque parts of the municipality. Thousands of hikers, who come here each year to take part in the traditional Levstik’s hike, share his opinion.
Where the Posavje Hills gradually descend towards the Dolenjska Hillocks, stands the mighty Primskovo Mountain. Perched on the top is the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, which can be viewed from far away, and at its side is a 600-year-old lime tree. The village was heavily marked by the healer and miracle man Jurij Humar (1819-1890), after whom the locals named their hiking trail. Many believe that powerful energy currents can be felt in the church and its surroundings. The wonderful landscape scattered with neat vineyards and vineyard cottages attracts increasing numbers of visitors as well as new settlers.
In the immediate vicinity, in Mišji Dol, the Church of St. Lucy is situated, which dates back into the 17th century and houses the oldest organ in Slovenia.
Šmartno pri Litiji is located in the Western Posavje Hills, 252 m above sea level. A single glance at the map reveals this town is a crossroads; the roads lead in the directions Litija – Ljubljana or Litija – Zagorje, then into the Kostrevnica Valley, towards Moravče, past Bogenšperk and through Temenica to the road Ljubljana – Zagreb, and through the Zavrstnik Valley and Trebeljevo towards Ljubljana.
In the centre of Velika Štanga, a village in the western part of the municipality, stands the Church of St. Anton Padovanski. The church used to be a well known place of pilgrimage in the Dolenjska Region. This area, named after the nearby hill as ‘The Country at the Foot of the Kampel Hill’, offers plentiful recreational opportunities in the intact nature, forest fruit and local specialties at your disposal. It is crisscrossed by numerous hiking trails; the Beekeepers’ Forest Learning Trail connects the honey producers, the Fruit Road is the source of carefully grown fruit, while the Chestnut Trail winds through the forests all the way to the neighbouring village of Janče (794 m).
Tisje, a small hamlet not far from Liberga, is known not only for a World War II battle, but also for the traditional hike organized in December.
